Hola and welcome to CoCoqui! My name is Lyzbeth and one of my favorite
hobbies is creating unique items to use or wear in the heart of Columbia, Missouri. My projects are
inspired by my abuelita and my home of Puerto Rico, yeah Puerto Rico "an
island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water..." LOL. No joke though,
Puerto Rico has a beautiful and rich 500 years
Spanish/European history and culture, 200 years of United States history, as well as
its inmense beautiful, intriging landscapes that make Puerto Rico,
well, La Isla Del Encanto.
During the summers I would spend
weeks with my grandparents, with whom I share so many fond memories and the love of the arts,
hobbies and crafts. She would spend hours teaching me whatever new craft she would be doing at the
time. While school was in session, weekends where spent in all
different kinds of classes from ballet, dance, modeling, and my
fave, ceramics class at Casa Candina.
My goals of being a
Computer Designer during college where changed when the 'call' just kept
directing me to all kinds of Fine Arts electives. In 2002 I
transferred to the school to Fine Art, Ceramics, at Herron School of
Arts, Indianapolis, IN, where amazingly gifted and inspiring faculty
taught me new ways to use all mediums to express myself.
After graduating in 2004 I got married and moved to
Columbia, Missouri, have two amazing kids and with all things being mom, wife,
volunteer and all around person to everyone else lost the focus of working on my art.
Now that my kids are older I am returning to the passion of the arts, creating
and sharing my experience and knowledge with others and bring back the old cultural crafts
that are now rarely created by hand, overtaken by modern machinery and most importantly the
fond memories spent with my abuelita.
